Who could have imagined a better outcome than the one witnessed in Columbus this weekend? Two Dayton Public Schools taking the State Title in both the boys and girls Division II track meet. Meadowdale seemed to be a sure win with Oksana Lawrence in an open event and on the winning relays (among the other talented girls there), however, it wasn't so obvious with Dayton Dunbar. There was no real 'stand out' among the team. Dunbar wasn't even in the running…they weren't favored to win….anything. However, the critics were all the way wrong on this one! Thank God that it was to the advantage of Dayton Dunbar. It was seemingly shaky at first, as event placements weren't going as hoped, however in the end Dunbar pulled off a 47-46 win over CVCA. Coach Sidney Booker and Coach Alfred Powell couldn't have been happier when they realized after the 4x400 Meter Relay that the team wasn't tied with CVCA, but instead one point ahead….that meant Victory! Talk about an exciting revelation!
Something else that makes this victory even more sweeter is the connection that Coach Sidney Booker and Coach Chad Miller have. Coach Booker has been Coach Miller's coach, confidant, and friend for many years. Coach Miller has been like a son to Coach Booker since he was the age of the Student-Athletes they both now coach. The joy and pride experienced on both parts, I'm sure, is one that any father/mentor/friend could only dream about. Congratulations!!
I know what you're saying…enough with the commentary…on to the reason you all came to the blog in the first place…PICTURES!!! Enjoy!!
